DJ Culture’s last day of operation as a retail store

IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

“September 30, 2012 will be DJ Culture’s last day of operation as a retail store”

Closing announcement from DJ Culture co-owner, better known as Simply Jeff:

It has been an honor to serve the EDM scene for the past 10 years as a retail storefront in the OC. I will especially remember all the unbelievable people we have met at the shop and at our events. From our first location in Costa Mesa to our present location in Huntington Beach, it was an incredible ride and it would not be possible without you! September 30, 2012 will be marked as a sad day in my life, but I look forward to happier days as I concentrate on new duties that need my undivided attention.
Myself, Russ and John would like to thank everyone for all the support over the past 10 years and will cherish all the good times we have shared with you.

We now pass the torch to the new store called “BEAT SYNC ACADEMY”. This new store will be owned and operated by DJ Culture’s longtime store manager Bryan Mizota. Myself, Russ and John will not hold ownership with the new store, but fully endorse and encourage you to support “BEAT SYNC ACADEMY”.

All the same services and inventory will still be available including: event ticket sales, DJ & production lessons and unique retail inventory catering to DJs, music fans & party people alike. The new store will also have new location, which is STILL in the Old World Village shopping mall (Huntington Beach). “BEAT SYNC ACADEMY” will open its doors in Unit 20 just around the corner from DJ Culture! There will be no downtime and the phone number will be the same.

Thank you all once again and best of luck to Bryan and the new shop.

White Rabbit Presents: OC's Ultimate DJ Competition

Who will take the title as Orange County's #1 DJ?

White Rabbit is leading the way as it brings back the EDM Project, this time at the Detroit Bar. Last Tuesday was the first of five nights with two rooms playing music all night with your chance to vote for the best DJ in the main room. There are four categories to consider when choosing your favorite:
  • Track Selection
  • Technical Ability
  • Versatility
  • Showmanship.
Above The Clouds lead the second room with DJs Mystical Shaman One, JP STYX, Casey Z, and Audible Chocolate (watch/listen below). Click here for the official event page and be sure to be there for the second round on Tuesday July 17th, 2012.

"Now that was an opening night! Good job to all the DJs who competed and a special thank you to all who was in attendance. The first round between Project Mayhem and Terrorista was so close I can't believe it! Between the judges panel and the voting Terrorista won the first round by 1%! The second round between Minaya & Vikus and Menikimati was a great match too, with Menikimati advancing! So the final round between Terrorista and Menikimati was very close as well and now its up to you! We will be uploading their sets today and you can vote!" - Mikey Made

The winner of last weeks competition will be announced this Tuesday and you will have your chance to vote once again for the best DJ that night.

"Thanks to all who voted and came out last night, it was a great kickoff! We had some great giveaways from Above the Clouds, a station with live art, Club Cannex, and even a magician." - White Rabbit

Four more nights, every Tuesday at the Detroit Bar. Don't miss the next one!

Sisaret Live

Sisaret released an EP last summer that you can now find on iTunes.

"Sisaret is a power quartet ...each of it's members is a songwriting force in their own right. Their music is a melding of diverse influences to a single stream of ideas, both collective and, at times, contrary. Sisaret spun off from the Alternative/Indie band Vivian founded in 2005; when founding members Jeff Brooks, Brandi Alexander and Gareth Friedlander joined forces in January, 2011 with April Tiger, a Roots/Blues singer/songwriter and close friend."

      NEWS:

Thieves steal $25,000 in school band instruments.

"Sycamore Junior High leaders are seeking the public's help to replace $25,000 in school band instruments stolen sometime over the weekend.
The more than 20 stolen items include tubas, baritones, trumpets, saxophones and drums. The theft has left the campus without any instruments for music classes and for the afterschool the band program, Principal Joe Carmona said.
"Our students are really, really upset. They don't understand how someone could do something like this to a school," he said." Continue reading.

      NPR: "There are no leads."

Thursday Throwdown (Like nothing else: You're in the band!)

Founded in 2008, Thursday Throwdown is all about Community Outreach Through Music. If you can play an instrument, show up and jam! Be a part of the band!

"Just bring your instrument and an amp (or whatever you need to make it heard) and we will provide the rest. We also strongly urge people to let us know of any music they would like to play at our sessions--original or cover songs."

They even take requests. Just send them an e-mail. Visit their website.
Sometimes the facebook site has the wrong dates, so make sure you visit the website for the correct meeting time and day. They just recently moved to Saturdays.
"As a community where the only necessary common interest is a love of music, Thursday Throwdown is a great place for people from all types of musical backgrounds to share insight with one another--to inspire, teach, learn, network, and of course, jam! If you are reading this message, and you have any kind of background in music--whether it be singing, playing an instrument, recording, music editing, or if you've listened to Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti a thousand times in a row--you have felt an urge to share your experience with other people. Well, we've all felt it. And if you have yet to give in to this urge, now is the time!! We want to help!"

"Our goal is to provide a creative outlet for people who have musical ideas or talents, but no one to connect with. We are here so that you can have a space and forum to bounce your ideas off. A passion and willingness to play music with others is all that you need. It's time spread sheer joy of music throughout our community in the best way we know how--playing it!!"

Mission: "The goal of Thursday Throwdowns is to create a fellowship of musicians in which people of all backgrounds gather together to share their love of music.
